Are Stickers Waterproof?

Stickers go on laptops, water bottles, bikes, packaging, basically everywhere. But what actually happens when they get wet? Do they hold up, or start peeling right away?

It is easy to assume all stickers work the same, but materials and finishes make a big difference. Let’s break down what “waterproof” really means, and what you can actually expect in real life.

TL;DR:

  • Not truly waterproof, but water-resistant and made for real-life use

  • Handles rain, washing, sunlight, and daily wear without falling apart

  • Laminate adds protection against moisture, scratches, and UV exposure

  • Works great both indoors and outdoors depending on material

  • They are not made to stay underwater for long periods

  • Material and laminate decide how durable they are

What Does Waterproof Actually Mean?

“Waterproof” sounds like a clear promise, but in reality it can be a bit misleading.

Technically, waterproof means something can be fully submerged in water without being affected at all. No damage, no peeling, no change over time. That is a very high standard, and not something most stickers are designed for.

Instead, what you usually get is water resistance. That means the sticker can handle exposure to water in everyday situations, like rain, splashes, or washing, without losing its function or appearance.

So while the word waterproof is often used in everyday language, water-resistant is the more honest and useful way to describe how stickers actually perform.

Are Our Stickers Waterproof or Water-Resistant?

Our stickers are weather-resistant and water-resistant. This means they are built to handle real-world conditions, not just perfect ones.

They can handle rain, snow, sunlight, and repeated washing without falling apart. You can run them through the dishwasher, use them outdoors, or stick them on items you handle daily, and they will still hold up.  You can even put them in your toilet (yes, we have tried it...).

This level of durability comes from combining strong materials with protective finishes. But even with that, they are not designed for constant underwater exposure.

If a sticker is left submerged for long periods, water can eventually work its way into the edges and affect the adhesive. That is not a typical use case, but it is where the limit goes.

What Makes Them Handle Water So Well?

All of our vinyl materials (except wall stickers) are weather- and water-resistant. The laminate layer acts like a protective shield, helping guard against moisture, scratches, and UV light. It also plays a big role in how your sticker looks and performs over time.

  • Glossy laminate offers the highest level of protection, keeps colors vibrant longer, and adds extra resistance against water and sunlight

  • Matte laminate is still durable and water-resistant, with a softer finish and slightly less protection against long-term sun exposure

  • A strong, well-balanced adhesive keeps the sticker in place, even when exposed to temperature changes, humidity, and regular handling

How Long Do They Last Outdoors?

With the right material and laminate, our stickers are built to handle real-life conditions. Their lifespan depends on the material, placement, and how much they are exposed to sun, weather, and daily wear. Different conditions will affect how long they last over time.

  • Our weather-resistant materials typically last around 2-4 years outdoors

  • Heavy-duty stickers are designed for longer use, with a lifespan of up to 7 years outdoors

  • Glossy laminate adds UV protection and helps colors stay vibrant for longer, while matte laminate does not offer UV protection.

  • Placement, weather conditions, and exposure all affect how long a sticker will last

Are All Stickers Water-Resistant?

Not all stickers are built for the same purpose.

Uncoated materials like Kraft Paper or Wall Stickers are designed for indoor use only. They do not have the protective layers needed to handle moisture, which means water can quickly damage both the print and the adhesive.

These materials are great for dry environments like packaging, walls, or decorative use, but they are not suitable for outdoor conditions or anything exposed to water.

So, Are Stickers Waterproof?

Not exactly, but they do not need to be.

Water-resistant stickers are designed for how they are actually used, in real environments with rain, washing, sunlight, and daily wear. That is what makes them reliable and versatile.

If you are looking for stickers that can handle life outside perfect conditions and still look great, you are covered.
